Responsibilities.
Advice to EACOP management about health policies and medical specifications.
Development and update of EACOP Health and Hygiene Management System (Health Plan, Malaria, Pandemic/epidemic management (Covid, Ebola), Risk assessments, emergency preparedness documents incl. pandemics/epidemics, mass casualty events...) according to best international practice and standards to control exposure to health hazards (in collaboration with Human Resources, HSE, Construction, etc.)
Development, implementation and coordination of a medical support system in accordance with international best practice and standards – including managing the EACOP medical contractor(s) appointed to deliver these services:
Site medical facilities, equipment and procedures, personnel: sick bays, intensive care equipment, qualified nurses and medics, ambulances, standard protocols and good practices.
medical support: network of hospitals, clinics and specialized practitioners, assistance companies...
Medical evacuation: primary, secondary and international
Coordinate (24/7) requests from EACOP offices, sites’ medics and remote sites for medical advice and Medevac in close collaboration with the Medical Operations Manager
Recruitment, training and mentoring of EACOP medical staff.
Oversight of ‘Fitness to Work’ program for all EACOP employees and contractors to ensure it meets company requirements
Development of health awareness and prevention campaigns (malaria, HIV,) and appropriate communication for improvement of health culture
Maintain up to date on research on new medical treatments and technologies to determine their feasibility and value on remote sites (e.g. telemedicine)
Manage the budget to ensure that costs are controlled while providing high quality care to employees.
Qualifications and Experiences required
Master’s in medicine BSc. Medicine, emergency or intensive care medicine, tropical diseases.
Minimum 15 years of professional experience in Emergency medical care and evacuation/response in oil and gas projects.
Required Competencies
Expertise in the management of intra- or extra-hospital vital failures.
Experience in an isolated and operational environment.
Knowledge of tropical pathology and good knowledge of Africa
Broad experience in clinical medicine and remote site care.
Knowledge of international best practices and standards for emergency medical care / response
Previous experience in international oil & gas industry appreciated
Behavioral competencies:
Expertise in the management of intra- or extra-hospital vital failures.
Training in Advanced Cardiac, trauma life support and emergency response management
Ability to effectively lead a team; work in a multi-cultural business setting.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills essential.
Current use of IT tools (Word, Excel, SAP, Outlook, etc.)
Fluent in English - speaking, writing; some Kiswahili highly beneficial
